Escape.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in.

The frigid winter air traveled down my esophagus and spilled into my lungs.

The blinding bright sun warmed the tear trails on my cheeks.

Yes.

This is it.

———————————————————————————————–

I entered the noisy and bustling cafeteria.  My peers flocked to the lunch lines fighting to get their lunches first so they can get the good tables.

I took my time.

At least it will look like I am doing something.

My lab partner and her group of friends lined up behind me.

I smiled and let them in front of me.

As usual I was the last to get my lunch, but that’s ok.

Maybe I will get a seat at a full table.

Maybe I will look like I’m part of a group!

There were no seats at a full table.

I found a seat by the door of the cafeteria.

I looked around at the tables around me.

Everyone was laughing and talking and so festive!

I looked at my peas and my smiling potatoes.

The all too familiar feeling in my throat and my eyes came back again.

No.

I took a mouthful of peas.

Stop.

I took a gulp of milk.

Go away!

I chomped on the smiling potatoes.

RINNNNGGGGG!

The bell signaling the end of the lunch period rang.

Great!

———————————————————————————–

I pranced pass the school.

I walked across the street.

I skipped pass the church.

I walked up my porch.

Knock knock

I felt the cool autumn air pass through my burning throat and out my quivering mouth.

“I’m home!”

—————————————————————————

I entered my room.

Logged onto Facebook.

Backed up my troops.

Checked the status of my alliance.

Ok.

I closed my light and let the darkness envelope me.

Bustle, gulp, ring, knock

Bustle, gulp, ring, knock

Bustle, gulp, ring, knock

Morning came.

My gym partner and his group of friends lined up behind me.

I smiled and let them in front of me.

He said thanks.

As usual I was the last to get my lunch, but that’s ok.

Then I saw someone sitting by themselves.

I said “Hi!”

He said hey.

I looked around at the tables around me.

I entered my room.

I sat on my desk.

I found my scissors.

I felt no more burn.

I smiled.

This is it.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

*** The internet is a medium to tell stories, to connect the most unlikely souls and make a difference in the world. Without the internet and net neutrality, individuals will truly feel isolated with no one who cares about them. The internet is the key to  social awareness to make sure all opinions are heard. If there are no net neutrality, then what is the difference between the internet and a bystander? The repeal of net neutrality is just another form of censorship to undermine education, creativity and connectivity. With the repeal of net neutrality, the other side of the world just got further. The world just got quieter.
